Minnesota Transfer Curriculum

The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) is the means by which students may transfer lower division general education requirements to any public college or university in Minnesota. If completed, this curriculum is accepted as a package that satisfies the general education requirements of a bachelor's degree. The curriculum requires a minimum of 40 credits distributed among 10 general education goal areas.

The ten goal areas of the MnTC allow students to choose coursework that best fits their major and career goals. The credits required to complete the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum can easily fit into the two-year degree for most majors. The MnTC can also be completed while attending on a part-time basis.

The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree of 64 credits is the transfer degree which includes the entire Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.

The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree (60-64 credits) includes a minimum of 30 credits of MnTC coursework selected from at least six of the ten goal areas. This degree will meet some, but not all, of the Minnesota Transfer Curiculum.

The Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree (60-72 credits) is a degree that requires a minimum of 20 credits of MnTC coursework in at least three of the ten goal areas. Often the majority of the MnTC courses are specified as required choices that support each technical program. The remaining credits of the AAS degree are technical credits and are not typically designed for transfer.

Ridgewater College provides counseling services to support students who plan to transfer credits. Academic advisors and counselors are available to help students select courses that will lead to completion of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
